Lipo Bag Testing
video at this link
http://vimeo.com/86301911

Hey guys I recently decided to do some testing/experimenting with the lipo charge bags that a lot of us use. I did this for a few reasons. 1. I was bored with all the bad weather and lack of flying 2. I recently obtained an airplane trailer and had moved my charging into the trailer and was getting worried about charging in a trailer next to all my planes that are also stored in the trailer.
I have lined most of my trailer with an all weather carpet that allows me to use Velcro straps which is nice but I was worried about the carpet being a fire hazard so I had started charging in lipo bags hoping that made things safer. You can see the video I made below but I learned a few things with the experiments

1.,undamaged lipo batteries are really pretty hard to ignite under normal charging conditions. Most of today?€?s smart chargers really prevent a lot of dangerous charging errors. Even with the ridiculous things I was doing to ignite the batteries I still found it difficult to ignite them. Even when I was shorting the batteries I had to use large gauge wire or the wires would simply melt and break the connection.
2.,I found a couple of different types of lipo failures. Relatively fireless explosions(rapid venting) which the lipo bag handled very well and the classic fireball/lipo fire which the lipo bag really didn?€?t handle that well.
3.,higher voltages seemed more dangerous. In order to get impressive fire/explosions I had the best luck wiring batteries in series.

So the bottom line for me is that although fire from charging a healthy , undamaged lipo battery is low you should definitely charge in a fireproof setting and don?€?t let the use of lipo bag allow you to be lax about where you charge. Hope you guys find this info useful and yes I realize this was a dangerous experiment and I would not recommend you guys try to repeat this experiment as I was probably lucky I didn?€?t get injured.

better safe than sorry

I can't rate this lipo bag to highly. The stitching is not consistent.I had to return the first one because of missed stitching.I received the replacement and had the same problem.Otherwise the service was quick, all items ordered were packaged well and function as advertised. Will definitely place future orders.
