I'm writing this as someone who has been flying heli's since 2018. I've owned helis from XK, Blade, and Oxy during that time. The M2 V3 Sport is my first OMP heli and I've had it for 2 weeks and flown it 25 times.
I can not fly hard 3D like some of the youtube videos I've seen of the OMP M2 V3. I can fly sports patterns in all orientations and am working to expand my horizons. Compared to my other helis, I find the OMP to be a smooth and predictable flyer, at a similar level as my Oxy 2 but with less mechanical complexity; the OMP M2 V3 also had available parts!
I find the design of the OMP M2 V3 to be very carefully thought out. Things I really like include the low part count, servos that can easily be installed, the sacrificial servo arms (verses stripping gears), and of course the direct drive motors. All of these things reduce the cost and time needed to repair the heli after a crash which, in turn, removes some of the fear of flying outside my comfort zone (where the best improvement opportunities are).
I really like the bluetooth app - it connects every time and gives me easy access to basic settings, like roll, pitch and yaw settings.
I'm using built in ELRS radio receiver and enjoy the comprehensive telemetry it provides.
I'll restate that I'm very happy with this heli but still, there are a few nits I'll bring up which maybe we'll see address in future models:
- I wish the tail motor was detachable at the rear of the heli as it would greatly speed up motor and tail boom swaps.
- You can buy a tail boom that is colored like the canopy but the one that comes with the heli is black. I changed to the colored one and it's a big visibility improvement - I think the colored boom should be standard on 200 and smaller helis.
- Rescue mode is marked as experimental - I'd like to see it graduate from this state.
- I try to use rescue mode at least once per day, even when I don't need it, so it's a part of my muscle memory. Anyway, rescue mode locks on for 0.5 seconds, even if I just touch the mode briefly. This dramatically launches the heli high in the air. I much prefer the rescue mode of my other helis that cancels as soon as you release the switch.
- Lining up the tab at the bottom of the canopy is a little tricky as there are several false catch points.
- I'd like to see the OSF3+ do some basic logging that I can view from the app. I'd especially like to see a vibration histogram which can be used to flag mechanical issues, or simply confirm everything is fine.
