After replacing the face plate, reassembling the radio and installing the battery, the radio would turn on by itself, cycle and turn off. This continued repeatedly until I disconnected the battery. It appeared that the power button was being pressed due to mounting lugs on the face plate were manufactured to short. I had to add shims to solve the issue. The cover should come with shims to accomplish this.
